I have a PC with a Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H motherboard, with an Intel Z77j Chipset.Īccording to the mboard user manual, support for USB is provided as follows: Posted: Fri 2:25 pm Post subject: Weird behaviour on USB ports Gentoo Forums Forum Index Kernel & Hardware Feels like a quality card, not cheap junk.Gentoo Forums :: View topic - Weird behaviour on USB ports I just disabled my Asmedia ports since this thing has 7 ports anyway (including the 2 front panel ports it gave me). If you keep your incompatible ports enabled it will still give you a warning message but you should be good to go as long as you don't use them for the Rift. I received the card from Amazon (the 5 port+20 pin version) and can confirm it passes the test.
Also make sure it's one of the powered cards (comes with internal power cables).
NOTE: I think any of the versions of this card should work as they all use the Fresco controller, but obviously the 2 port one isn't going to give you enough to run the Rift plus the Touch. If you do have this issue, you can buy a PCI-E add-on card. Even though the port may be labeled as USB 3.0, and be functional, it may not work with the Rift. The Compatibility Tool will show you a warning if this controller is known to cause problems. So, there are a variety of different USB controllers, and not all of them are fully compatible with the Rift. At first I thought this was meaningless since the tool is doing some other silly things (like saying some CPUs aren't compatible even though they're faster than the recommended spec) but then I saw this post on the oculus forums: Apparently the ones on my motherboard (Asmedia controller) are known to cause problems. If you're meeting the recommended specs you may not have bothered to run the compatibility tool, but you should still run it to check your USB 3.0 ports.
